This blog was begun to follow the progression of School Choice in the Grand Rapids area, particularly as it pertains to families as they try to get the best possible education for their children. As the situation continues to change, it is obvious that people must advocate for what they want. There is now a charter high school, (yeah!) but we can't stop striving to create better education options for our kids.

Steps to Take

After speaking with our school administration, there are some things we can begin doing, such as contacting JC Huizenga & Jeff Clark at NHA and renewing the urgently needed NHA high school pleas!(number posted on list, top left).

Things to talk about:

  • Where are our kids to go to high school?
  • NHA will lose money when parents start moving younger siblings to secure high school spots in their district of choice.
  • All of the charter schools feeding into a high school, make one nice high school!
  • Why wouldn't a high school be successful, given the success of the local charters?
  • Start small and add-on.
  • Name your reason.

We have nothing to lose by doing everything we can to make this happen!

HI. I have two children that attend Excel in grades 1st and 2nd. My husband and I have already been discussing what we are going to do when freshmen year comes around the corner. We love Excel and we are not looking forward to choosing any public high school to put them in. We are struggling with which district would be the right choice for our children.

Sorry, I hit the wrong button before I was finish. Please know that we believe a NHA High School is imperative! Parents of NHA Charter Schools must work diligently to get a NHA High School in the works! Our students would benefit tremendously with attending a NHA High School. We love Excel and can't imagine them going to a High School without the same moral, values and the wonderful education that NHA offers our children. Lets continue this through a NHA High School! PLEASE EMAIL JC Huizenga To Renew High School discussion
